The trial for three people who were charged for the murder of former Cochrane resident Ryan Lane has been adjourned until Feb. 15.
Sheena Rempel, 26, Timothy Mark Rempel, 27, and Wilhelm Klassen Rempel, 38, were arrested in November 2012 and each charged with first-degree murder after Lane disappeared from northwest Calgary in February 2012. His body was found in November, 2012.
Lane, 24, had a daughter with Sheena Rempel, and though Lane’s parents have denied the existence of a custody battle between their son and his former partner, reports have indicated there may have been a dispute over custody.
Lane’s parents, Lorraine Jackson and Bruce Lane, did, however, say during a press conference that they believed their son was killed sometime during the night of his first visit with his daughter.
The three suspects have been in custody since their arrest and appeared via closed-circuit television from the Calgary Remand Centre on Jan. 10. The prosecution is expected to provide the defence with the majority of their evidence shortly.
The manner in which Lane was murdered has not been released.
