The Town of Cochrane is calling on youth and community members to help shape the future of community wellness for young people in Cochrane. Through a new Community Wellness Plan, the Town aims to develop strategies, programs and activities that enhance the well-being of local youth.
Funded by the Government of Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund, this initiative will focus on preventing youth crime and supporting positive opportunities for young people. To ensure the plan reflects community needs, Cochrane is launching a series of engagement opportunities for youth, families and stakeholders.
“Young people are an essential part of our community, and we want to ensure they have a voice in shaping programs and services that support their well-being,” says Jay Judin, Director of Community Safety and Protective Services.
“This is an exciting opportunity for youth to share their experiences and ideas, helping to create a stronger, more connected community.”
There are a couple of different ways to get involved: The first is to complete the youth survey. Youth aged 12 to 24 can complete a short online survey and be entered in for a chance to win a $50 VISA gift card. The survey is open until February 16.
Secondly, register for the community design labs. Join a workshop to review engagement findings and help shape priorities for the plan.
For youth (ages 12 to 24), families and community members: Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 5 to 7 pm at the SLS Centre (dinner provided).
For stakeholders, including agency and organization staff that work with youth: Thursday, February 27 from 10 am to noon at The Station (lunch provided).
Feedback collected will be compiled in a What we Heard report and presented to Council for consideration in early spring. For more information about the Community Wellness Plan and to register, visit letstalkcochrane.ca/youth.
