The third annual Blanket Drive is making its return to the community in an effort to help support animals in need this holiday season.
While taking her own dog on a morning walk in the fresh snow, event organizer Jana Husmann told The Eagle that she has been hosting the drive for the last three years.
Aside from blankets, Husmann explained that the Humane Society has a list posted online and on their social media pages which highlight goods they are looking for.
“What they’re looking for is not only blankets,” Husmann said. "They’re also looking for office supplies, cat food, dog food, canned pumpkin, canned tuna, cat litter, laundry detergent, and just things they need on a daily basis.”
Donations will be collected from November and December. Husmann adds that people can also make their donations to the Cochrane Pet Valu, where a donation bin will be located on site.
“People can donate until Dec. 15, or people can send us an email at [email protected], if they wish for their items to be picked up from their porch or front door,” she said. “We’ll be driving around town and picking up those donations on Dec. 14 and 15, between noon and 3 p.m.”
Last year, Husmann said the generous donations of Cochranites saw truckloads of goods heading towards the Cochrane Humane Society.
“It helps them with the daily task of taking care of animals in need,” Husmann said. “So, they can provide warm shelter, food, medical care, and everything else.”
Husmann said she hopes her words can spread through the community and inspire more people to donate. She said she is extremely grateful for the continued support from the community.
“The last couple year’s, everyone’s been so amazing and so many people came out to donate,” she stated. “It’s helped support the Humane Society, which is amazing, and it makes sure that the animals, who are looking for their forever home, are well taken care of.”
Husmann said she would like to give thanks to everyone who has supported the Blanket Drive.
“Just a shout out to the community for being so wonderful and supportive,” she said.
