Between schools finishing up classes and the warmer weather, it seems that summer has officially started in Cochrane, and to celebrate, Cochrane will have a summer kickoff event July 5 at the Cochrane RancheHouse from 12-4 p.m.

The event is free and will include some classic summertime activities including a slip ‘n slide, beach volleyball and water balloons.

All ages are welcome to the event and there will even be a separate volleyball net set up for adults if they are looking to play.

Reagan Nagel is a community program leader with the Town of Cochrane and also helps operate the Cochrane Fun Van, which will be at the event.

“It is that first week where most people aren’t out of town yet and kids are fresh out of school,” said Nagel. “They have lots of energy and they want to do something that’s fun.”

The Fun Van was approved as part of the town budget in 2013 and according to the Town of Cochrane website it offers “enhanced mobile programming, increased public engagement and bigger and better events.”

She says the event is not only a fun way to kick off the season, but it is also a great way to let the community know about the different summer camps and events going on in Cochrane throughout July and August.

Summer camps offered by the town include art, drama, skateboarding and tennis. According to Nagel, registration is open until the camp start date.

Nagel says the Fun Van will be at the RancheHouse most Saturdays during the summer from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., while the weekly Farmers’ Market is going on.

She said there won’t be a slip ‘n slide and beach volleyball, but they will have a lot of fun activities for the kids.

Nagel also said the Fun Van could be found at the Zero Gravity Skate Park on most Fridays, where they will bring a large speaker to play music and handing out freezies.
