St. Timothy is giving out more than tricks or treats, with the return of their second annual Halloweenie BBQ Drive-Thru on Oct. 31.
Parents, staff, and students served drive-thru meals to the community on Halloween between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Vice principal Sara Dean, explained that the event is put on by school council as a convenient way for families to get ready for an evening of trick or treating.
“We offer a way for families to pick up dinner before trick or treating,” she said. “It’s supporting our sense of community, getting to know our neighbours, and getting connected to the people that we serve.”
Follow the success from last year’s event, Dean said it inspired them to bring it back for another year.
“For us, as people in education, school is a lot more than what happens in the classroom, and so brining It outside and being part of our community is very important,” she said.
School council chair, Rochelle Snively, said that last year’s event saw around 100 hotdogs being served to the community. She believes that it is a great way to connect with students and families in the community.
“We’re on track to do a little more than that this year,” Snively said. “It’s been a great opportunity to meet the community, and provide something that makes our lives a little easier.”
Dean said she would like to give a special thanks to the school council who helped bring this event to the community.
“It’s all parents at our school who support us to do fun things, and they have sponsored this through our fundraising initiatives,” Dean said. “So, a huge thank you to them.”
