The provincial government announced today that Rocky View Schools (RVS) will be receiving millions in additional funding and nearly a dozen modular classrooms to help deal with overcrowded schools.

The school board said RVS expects to gain an additional $4 million in funding, along with 12 new modular classrooms and financial support for the movement of 12 existing RVS modular classrooms.

“This much-needed boost to operational funding will help Rocky View Schools direct additional dollars to support student learning and success,” said RVS Trustee board chair Fiona Gilbert.

Gilbert said the RVS board is grateful the government is responding to RVS’s urgent request for additional modular classrooms in Rocky View communities where the school division continues to experience significant year-over-year enrollment growth.

“The additional classroom space will help ease pressures in overcrowded schools while we eagerly await new schools to be built,” Gilbert said.

“RVS is committed to maximizing every space and dollar to create the most optimal learning experience possible for all our students,” she continued. “We will carefully and thoughtfully review the needs across the division to decide where the modulars will provide the greatest relief given our many full schools and how to best direct the 4 million dollars into our classrooms.”
