Environment Canada has issued a frostbite warning for the Cochrane region as temperatures are expected to plunge to -23 C with a windchill of -31 C overnight.
It should remain dangerously cold over the next few days, with a -21 C overnight temperature on Friday and Saturday with an expected windchill of -28 C.
There is also a 60 per cent chance of snow on Thursday and a 30 per cent chance on Friday.
Residents are advised to minimize their time outdoors after the sun sets.
Temperatures are not expected to moderate until early next week with a high of -7 C expected Monday and 0 C expected Tuesday.
