It’s race year number 12 for the Cochrane Outhouse Races this Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.
Event organizer Karrie Peace from local retail shop, The Heavenly Outhouse, believes this may be the biggest turnout yet — something that she attributes to the Aug. 19 TSN Kraft Celebration Tour at Mitford Park.
“We had a great deal of TSN coverage when they picked up on the story right before the Kraft Challenge,” said Peace. “They ran a clip of the Outhouse Races in their newsreel for three days. We were getting calls from all over North America...”
Prizes include $500 for the fastest team and $500 for the funniest team; there will also be an award for the team who donates the most dough.
The event is all in the spirit of community fun.
“The entrants get exposure, the food bank gets a fat donation and the spectators get to see something truly unusual — a bunch of fine, upstanding citizens dressed up as goodness knows what, running around in outhouses!” said Peace.
