Cochrane celebrated the Fourth Avenue Wall enhancements Thursday, unveiling the new Cochrane sign, and officially marking the completion of the Highway 1A improvements project.
The artistic elements of the wall were fully funded by the Town's Arts Endowment Reserve, supported by voluntary contributions from local developers. The cost of the artistic elements of the wall was $250,000.
“We’re unveiling an iconic piece of Cochrane – and not a single tax dollar was used,” said Mayor Jeff Genung.
Asad Niazi of developer Canopy Lands was on hand for the ceremony. His company is involved in the Rolling Trails redevelopment, which is in the neighbourhood planning stage. They will be required to contribute to an off site levy before work can begin there.
“This kind of public art adds value. It’s a catalyst for a lot of good things that can happen in Cochrane,” he said.
The wall enhancements will be back lit from dusk to dawn. Niazi said he was amazed at how good it looks at night.
