Cochrane’s Home Reno Heaven, a non-profit that sells recycled renovation products and appliances, will be moving to its new home on Dec. 1.
“Everybody here is tickled pink and excited like nobody’s business to get moving,” said Mark Anderson, store manager.
Though the business, owned and operated by Cochrane Society for Housing Options, had a great relationship with the landlord, Cochrane Plumbing, Anderson said it’s time for more room.
“For a number of months, we’ve been working on closing this deal with CT’s Used Furniture Store to gain a bigger space to run the business,” Anderson said.
The new space – located at 136 Charlesworth Ave. – will be significantly larger with a paved lot on the side of the building, a fence, and according to Anderson, will be more secure.
Home Reno will also be acquiring the remaining unsold furniture that previous owners, William and Erna Brech, leave behind.
Anderson said they will likely be selling the furniture for the first few weeks. Any unsold items will be given to charities including Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area, The Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, and Women in Need Society.
The move will begin Dec. 1 and both stores will remain open to the public until Dec. 15.
“We’re not doing the big professional moving day van move. We’ve got to pick everything up in this store and move it there,” Anderson said, adding that the store has received at least 30 offers of help from residents.
“We have, I think, five trailers and a multitude of pickup trucks,” Anderson said, though they’re still accepting all the help they can get.
Virginia Smith-Jones is a volunteer employee at Home Reno and will be offering her labour and truck during the weeks of the move.
Smith-Jones has been with the store for the last year-and-a-half but says she always likes to help out around town.
“I’m retired, just looking for something extra to do. I like to be involved in the community,” she said.
