Hazmat teams continue to deal with overturned propane truck on Hwy. 1A

Nearby residents warned flare off to deal with leaking propane will be "loud and bright" when it comes.

Accoding to Rocky View County, County Fire Services, alongside the Calgary Fire Department and Hazmat teams, continue to monitor the propane leak from the overturned semi-truck on Highway 1A between Lochend Rd and Woodland Rd.

The Emergency Response Assistance Canada (ERAC) team has reassessed the situation and updated the plan:

  • The controlled flare-off is now expected to take approximately 12 hours once setup is complete.
  • The flare team is currently in Red Deer and is expected to arrive within the next hour.
  • Once the flare is underway, residents will be allowed to return home.
  • We will provide updated information on road access and alternate routes once confirmed.

🚨 What Residents Need to Know:

  • The flare-off will be loud and bright. This is a controlled and safe procedure to remove the remaining propane.
  • The Bearspaw Lions Club reception centre (25240 Nagway Road) will close once residents can return home.

The County will provide additional updates as the situation progresses. For real-time information, visit rockyview.ca or follow the County on social media.
