Registration for this year's Footstock already surpassed last year's event at 991 and counting.

After celebrating its 25th anniversary last year, Footstock, Cochrane’s beloved annual running and triathlon event, is back for its 26th edition—stronger than ever. With nearly 1,000 participants registered across various events, organizers say the community-driven race continues to grow, thanks in large part to its dedicated volunteers.

“The only reason our race succeeds is because we have so many volunteers that keep coming back,” said Meredith McMorran, race director for Footstock. “Some of them have been involved for as long as the race has existed.”

This year’s event, taking place on June 1, features a full roster of races for runners of all ages and abilities:

  • 3k Family Fun Run
  • 5k
  • 8k
  • 10k
  • 18k Relay
  • Kids Triathlon

The Kids Triathlon has already sold out with all 500 spots claimed—a record turnout. The 18k relay has also seen a jump in popularity, with 33 teams registered, the highest in the event’s history.

“Our registration numbers keep increasing from year to year,” McMorran noted. “It’s exciting to see the community and even runners from outside Cochrane showing so much enthusiasm.”

While Footstock is known for its welcoming and scenic course along the Bow River, its mission extends beyond fitness. The event donates to various local organizations each year, including Cochrane Activettes and the Cochrane Food Bank, both of which also support the event through volunteer efforts.

“We try and really respond to things that are important within the community,” said McMorran. “It’s a full-circle kind of relationship.”

Although primarily a local affair, Footstock has gained traction within the wider running community, attracting participants from across Alberta and even from other provinces.

“The majority of runners are from Cochrane, but we love seeing people come from all over Canada,” McMorran said. “We also have many return runners, which tells us they’re loving Footstock as much as we do.”

Whether you're a competitive athlete, a casual jogger, or someone just looking for a fun, healthy way to spend a day with family, Footstock offers something for everyone.
