Flag raising at The Station for National Legion Week

Cochrane's Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.15 Men of Vision hosted a flag raising ceremony at the Station on Cochrane Crossing, on Sept. 13, ahead of National Legion Week.

Ahead of National Legion Week, (Sept. 15 to 22) the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.15 Men of Vision hosted a flag raising ceremony at the Station on Cochrane Crossing on Sept. 13.

Mayor Jeff Genung said it is great to have a space in town that can hoist the Legion flag in the Historic Downtown Area of Cochrane.

"The Legion is something that I've supported in the past, and why wouldn't we," Genung said. "As a community and individuals, the Legion is very important. It signifies our support of them in a small way, and I'm happy to be here."

Legion sergeant-at-arms Joey Cyr said their new committee aims to usher in a new year of inclusivity for everyone, adding that this year's Legion Week is very important because it coincides with the Cochrane Legion's 50th anniversary.

"We're going to be holding a huge party for that on Nov. 23, so we really want to emphasize how important the legion is in the community," Cyr said. "There's alot of history here, and we want to spread the word and get people involved."
