With the potential for patchy frost tonight in Cochrane, the fall forecast begins with when we can expect the first fall frost.
“For some people the first sign of fall is that first frost and across the prairies that generally happens in September,” said meteorologist, Rhythm Reet, in the Weather Network Youtube video update.
Sept.16 is showing as the first frost date on the alamanac.com website.
“We’re going to be looking at above seasonal temperatures into the prairies but the one place to watch is going to be through areas of Alberta as we head into October,” Reet explained.
“That also does set up for a slightly above seasonal amount of precipitation possibly for the southern regions of Alberta as well.”
“That is because of the moisture that is going to be streaming in across areas of British Columbia spreading into Alberta.”
Reet provided further details saying the eastern half of the prairies will still be looking at below seasonal amount of precipitation whereas most of areas like Saskatchewan will be looking at near seasonal amount of precipitation.
Heading into November, the jet stream will push cooler air across the western end of the prairies bringing a few winter storms, according to Reet.
Those potential storm situations will be forecasted later in the fall as conditions occur.
