The SLS Centre and the Town of Cochrane are planning to bring a unique event this Halloween season with their Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 26.

A unique spin on regular trick or treating will make its spook-tacular debut at the SLS Centre with their inaugural Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 26, in partnership with the Town of Cochrane.

The free event is open to everyone and will take place a the SLS Centre Field parking lot from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants are encouraged to put on their best costumes and enjoy a variety of activities that will take place at the SLS Centre.

Trunk or Treaters can visit a variety of decorated vehicles and stations hosted by local business, organizations, and community members.

SLS Centre director of experience, Catriona Hill, explained that Trunk or Treating is already very popular in the United States as an alternative to the traditional door-to-door candy collecting on Halloween.

“Last year, I happened to be in the States just before Halloween, and I went to one of these events in Missoula, Montana, put on by a car group, and it was an absolutely amazing community experience.” Hill said. “This was something that was one of their core Halloween events in the community, and all I could think of the whole time was – This would be so awesome in Cochrane.”

Hill said the event will have games, a DJ, bouncy houses in the gym, and a variety of outdoor exhibits. In terms of the exhibits themselves, Hill explained that the SLS Centre is inviting the community to participate in.

“This is something that we are asking community organizations, service groups, and businesses to register with us, and come down to have their own display,” she explained. “And by display, I’m referring to a 10 by 10 [area] that will be in our parking lot just outside of the fieldhouse.

“Bring down your vehicle, decorate it according to whatever thing you want, and you hand out candy or other giveaways from the trunk of your car.”

With limited openings available, spaces are on a first come, first served basis. For anyone interested in participating. The deadline to register for the event is Oct. 18.

For more information on the event, and how businesses and organizations can register, Hill said it can be found online by visiting www.slscentre.com/trunk-or-treat.
