CREMONA – The village’s byelection that comes on the heels of three resignations in August that left council without quorum has been postponed by nearly a month.
“The legislative requirements for advertising as detailed in the Local Authorities Election Act were not met,” reads part of a statement posted to the municipality’s website on Monday, Oct. 7.

The byelection, initially slated for Nov. 4, has instead been rescheduled for Nov. 25 with voting to take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the council chamber, which is located at 106, 1st Ave. E.
As well, a new nomination day which was originally scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7, has been rescheduled with the deadline for potential candidates to submit their paperwork by noon on Oct. 28.
In August, former mayor Tim Hagen as well as deputy mayor Joe Canaday and Coun. Jody Dick submitted their resignations. Councillors Shane Goebel and Autumn Schmidt had remained on the council that was left without quorum and thus no longer had the legislative authority to make decisions or take any actions.
Municipal Affairs subsequently stepped in and later appointed an interim administrator to carry out council duties alongside the municipality’s staff so the village could continue to conduct its business.
