The Cochrane Legion hoisted the poppy flag at the Station at Cochrane Crossing ahead of Remembrance Day on Nov. 8.
Past Cochrane Legion Branch No. 15 Men of Vision president and first woman to serve as president for the Cochrane Legion, Darla Gullens, said the ceremony used to take place at the Cochrane RancheHouse, but has now been moved to the Station.
“Actually, two years ago, my husband did the ceremony, he’s now deceased, but he always enjoyed Remembrance Day, which is on Monday,” Gullens said.
She invites Cochranites to join the members of the Legion for the ceremony at the Cochrane Cenotaph, which will start at around 10:45 a.m. She asks all attendees to arrive early, adding that there will be seating exclusively for veterans, dignitaries, and seniors.
“The streets will be full, it’ll be at least 400 or 500 people there,” Gullens said. “Afterwards, inside the branch, is camaraderie and lunch. There are also going to be about 100 cadets as well.”
On Nov. 23, the Cochrane Legion building will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. On Nov. 23, 2026, the Cochrane Legion itself will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in Cochrane.
