No one needs to spend Valentine's Day alone with the Cochrane High School Interact Club’s Valentine's Day Game Night on Feb. 14.

The event will take place at St. Andrew’s United Church from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Entry is free of charge and donations are being collected at the door.

Leader of the Interact Club, Bella Vogelaar explained that the club exists under the veil of Cochrane Rotary Interact, the high school branch of the Cochrane Rotary Club.

“Our goal with the interact club is to encourage volunteering or volunteerism in youth, and to make sure that they realize what the importance of getting involved in the community is,” she said.

This year, the group was brainstorming ways that they could best benefit the community.

“We were things about holidays where people feel especially isolated, certainly in times where so many people are on their phones and there’s not a lot of human connection,” Vogelaar said. “So, we ultimately decided that it might be a cool idea to host a family games night.”

The night will be separated into one-hour slots of different activities, followed by a movie to round off the last hour. Vogelaar adds that they will also be serving hot chocolate, popcorn, and food from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Since the club is entirely volunteer based, Vogelaar said all donations raised from the event will be dedicated to the club for future use.

“I’d like to be able to provide something that makes us seem uniform and like we are a club, so I’m collecting these donations mostly to fund t-shirts or sweaters but also to fund future events like this,” she said. “We’re hoping this goes really well that we can make this an annual thing. I’m in Grade 12, but I’d like to stick around and help out the high school club and continue to grow it as much as I can.”

Vogelaar invites anyone who is interested to drop by and attend.

"I’m really looking forward to seeing how this allows people to connect on a level that’s not inspired by technology,” Vogelaar said.
