Cochrane Home Treasures to host several free community movie nights this spring

“We have noticed with increased costs of living right now that some of the nice things have fallen off for a lot of families,” Breeze said. “Cochrane Home Treasures wanted to provide a few community nights where going to see the movies will be free for them.”

As a way to help provide comfort and mental relaxation in the coming months, Cochrane Home Treasures will be hosting a variety of free community movie nights at the Cochrane Movie House.

The complimentary movie nights will take place on April 19, June 14, Oct. 11, and Nov. 8. All movies and showtimes will be confirmed on April 11, after which time anyone who is interested in attending the viewings may pick up a ticket from the box office at any time prior to the confirmed showings. Tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are based on availability.

Manager of Cochrane Home Treasures, Cayley Breeze, said their mission statement is that “everyone deserves the nice and the necessary in life,” but with rising costs and inflation impacting families around Cochrane, the free movie night aims to balance the niceties and the necessities.

“We have noticed with increased costs of living right now that some of the nice things have fallen off for a lot of families,” Breeze said. “Cochrane Home Treasures wanted to provide a few community nights where going to see the movies will be free for them.”

Breeze added that regardless of what film is being shown on the aforementioned dates at 6:45 p.m., it will be a completely cost-free movie night for families in Cochrane.

“There’s no restrictions,” Breeze said. “If there’s a blockbuster, a kid’s movie – whatever is playing on that day will be available to be seen.”

With families experiencing many pressures and stresses these days, Breeze said the complimentary community movie screenings can help provide a small form of relief for local families who are feeling the pinch.

“It’s a great mental health break to see a movie and have a little break from life and we hope the community sees that and takes advantage of it, and has a good time with friends and family.” Breeze said.

Alongside the planned dates, Breeze hinted additional unplanned and unadvertised movie nights will take place in the near future to help reach as many movie lovers as possible.

“There’s going to be a few surprise movie nights throughout the year as well,” she said. “It’s just going to be a – you show up, and your movie gets paid for that day.”

In addition to the free movie nights, Cochrane Home Treasures is also extending an invitation to Cochranites to participate in several free swim and skate days that will be taking place between April and December at the SLS Centre.

Breeze said families interested in participating have to register beforehand, but asks to keep an eye out for when registration opens as they are currently still setting the events up.
