Cochrane Firefighters Association host Movember fundrasier

The Cochrane Firefighters Association are growing out their mustaches through November for their 11th annual Movember campaign to help raise money to support men's mental health initiatives.

The Cochrane Firefighters Association and Cochrane Fire Services (CFS) are growing out their finest staches for their annual Movember fundraising campaign for men’s health.

CFS member and organizer for this year’s campaign, Jesse Acott, explained that the fundraiser will see some of Cochrane’s finest bearing their whiskers out in support.

“The whole fire department participates, but seven of us are on a team,” he explained. “We’re collecting funds for the Movember Foundation, and the biggest reason I think that we look after it, is just the stigma around men’s mental health.”

On a personal level, Acott believes that there’s some stigma on men being more open and vulnerable about their mental health, suicide, and their overall emotional state.

“The Movember Foundation does a really great job of setting up initiatives, to really help men be a lot more open and vulnerable about that,” he said. “And I want to do my best, as well as our team, to fundraise and get funds towards those causes.”

With several team members growing out their bristles, Acott believes that two of the best moustaches belong to Mike Marianchuck and Alex Vague.

“They’re probably top candidates right now,” Acott said. “My moustache is pretty sad right now, but when it’s in full form, it’s pretty good. I can compete, but not right now.”

With continued and growing support for Movember Fundraisers in the community, he really appreciates seeing more community members support efforts that surround men’s health.

For anyone interested in donating to the Cochrane Firefighter Association’s Movember fundraiser can do so by visiting movember.com/t/cochrane-fire-motown.

“It’s basically the Cochrane Firefighter Association Movember page, and essentially you can donate to any particular team member there, or just the team in general,” Acott said.
