Santa Claus is coming to town once again, with a little help from the Cochrane Fire Department.
On Dec. 24 starting at 2 p.m., Santa will be on top of one of Cochrane Fire Services’ fire trucks visiting every community in town, making sure to stop at the major parks or roadways – places that could act as gathering spots to see ‘jolly old’ Saint Nick.
“A lot of kids really enjoy seeing the fire trucks and to have Santa on top of it is a huge bonus. It is a nice way to start off Christmas Eve to have a chance to know that Santa is out and about,” said Dave Levisky, a firefighter with Cochrane Fire Services.
Levisky said last year was the first time they took Santa out and they got the idea from one of their firefighters who grew up in Cranbrook, B.C. where they had a similar event.
He said they didn’t know what to expect, but they ended up having a great turnout with what he estimated to be between 2,000 to 3,000 people.
Levisky recalled even seeing some kids giving fresh baked cookies to Santa.
“Parents told me that a lot of kids were excited to go to bed early because they knew Santa was in town,” he said. “We definitely got some good feedback that way.”
Santa will be having a special guest riding in the passenger seat of the truck once again this year – Cochrane mayor Ivan Brooker.
A detailed map of where Santa will be making his stops will be available in the Dec. 18 edition of the Cochrane Eagle with specific times and locations of where Santa and the truck will be.
