A Cochrane family has received a new accessible kids vehicle from Direct Energy and Variety’s Go Baby Go program.

The Khan family, (Julisa, husband Harris, and sons Darrius and Dariyaan), was gifted with the vehicle at a special event in Calgary on July 18.

Three year-old Darrius has retinoschisis. He underwent surgery to reattach his retinas, but it was unsuccessful and left him visually impaired. Darrius’s mom describes him as loving, intelligent, playful, and having a great sense of humour.

He’s interested in pressing all the buttons and steering his parents vehicle (when in the driveway); so having a car of his own would mean the world to him. Darious was one of eleven Calgary area youngsters who received the vehicles on July 18.

Go Baby Go is a program that supports young children living with disabilities and limited mobility using ride-on adaptive toy cars with push-button switches, supportive seating, and communication devices. Through these modified vehicles, children are provided the opportunity to move independently in ways that they otherwise would not be able to do on their own.
