The 2024 Cochrane Fair is just around the corner.

Kicking off on Saturday, July 27 the annual fair is a staple summer event for families and other local fair enthusiasts alike.

As usual, the fair will be hosted at the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society Grounds, located at 43080 Bow Valley Trail, Cochrane, AB. The fairgrounds will open at 10:00 a.m., and activities will run until 4:00 p.m. with bull riding in the evening at 7:00 p.m.

According to Cochrane Fair chairperson Leslie Hunt, the fair is a great opportunity for local residents looking to have a good time.

“It's an interesting opportunity to gather your friends and family and come in and have one heck of a good fun day,” he said.

The outdoor arena starts with mutton busting at 10:00 a.m., which requires a pre-sign up to attend. Then there's a goat scramble immediately after that, followed by Wheatland Trick Riders, a dog and pony show, and mini-chuckwagon races.

The fair will also have various attractions happening at the Stampede Stage throughout the day, such as a juggler and a magician show, line dancing, First Nations dancing and a corn eating contest.

There will also be the Farm Alley Zone, which includes horses, pigs, ducks, chickens, geese, and cows for people to visit.

The Family Fun Zone, sponsored by Home Treasures, will also be packed with engaging activities for kids throughout the day. The Family Fun Zone will include activities such as a three-legged sack race, soccer golf, and various other games.

There will also be the TC Energy Safety Zone, in which kids can learn about fire safety and also complete the Junior Firefighters Challenge.

Returning this year will also be the ever popular pony rides, in which visitors have the opportunity to ride a pony for themselves.

The fair will also include face-painting, a 50/50 draw, silent auction, mechanical bull riding, a family-friendly beverage centre, and the addition of bouncy castles for this year.

Once the day cools off, the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding event will start at 7:00 p.m., followed by a barn dance.

Separately purchased tickets are required for attending an evening of Bull Riding and dance festivities.

Tickets for the Cochrane Fair are available for purchase online. For more details on the event schedule and ticketing, visit the official Cochrane Fair website or contact the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society directly at 403-909-3250.
