The 17th annual Water Valley Celtic Festival kicks off June 20, but organizers are starting things early with a Friday night concert June 19.

The 7-9 p.m. concert will see Heather's Kitchen perform, featuring Heather Cameron (fiddle, guitar, vocals), Miriam Hopf (keyboard and vocals), Barbara Rose Olorenshaw (fiddle and vocals), Darcy Stamp (guitar) and Dave Settle (bodhran). This is a separately ticketed show with tickets available in Water Valley and online. Also on Friday night, The Staggered Pints will be playing in the Water Valley Saloon from 9 p.m. until midnight.

Rua, featuring Roxanne Young and David Morrissey, will be playing the finale in the Community Hall from 8-9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

For the rest of the festival, there's a whole pile of activities, artisans and performances - over 250 musicians - in 10 different venues throughout Water Valley, such as the Community Hall, saloon, Chinook Arts, FAMI tent, Celtic Club learning tent, General Store porch or the Water Valley Church Events Centre.

Fallen Timber Meadery employees will be on hand so people can try meads and honey-based beers.

The saloon's porch will host a session, where people just get together and play music.

At the learning tent, festival goers can get a lesson in vocal skills, guitar, mandolin, tin whistle or bodhran, according to their schedule.

Performances start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and run until 9:30 p.m. in the Community Hall, Chinook Arts, and Church Events Centre, and until midnight in the saloon.

Advance ticket prices are now $25 for a single, $75 for the family, or at the door, $30 for a single and $90 for the family. Advance tickets are available until June 19 at 6 p.m.
