Annual Cochrane Lions Rodeo Returns Aug. 30 - Sept. 2

Dust off your boots, because the Cochrane Lions Rodeo is returning for another year of action packed rodeo competitions, community gathering and unforgettable entertainment for all ages.

From Aug. 30 - Sept.2, the rodeo will host a variety of different attractions and features with gates opening at 11:00 a.m. every day. There will be everyday attractions such as the kids zone, food trucks, 50/50 draws, buckle draws, and the beer garden from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. plus specific daily attractions. 

On Friday, Aug. 30, the rodeo will kick off with a day full of free entertainment for the whole family. From 12:00 p.m. –2:00 p.m. there will be a free BBQ, then starting at 2:00 p.m. will be the free to attend Slimdor Ranch rodeo, and finally, to send the day off at 6:00 p.m. will be the free to attend community concert starring artist Mariya Stokes.

Saturday, Aug. 31, will be a day of classic rodeo events, starting at 1:00 p.m. with the rodeo royalty crowning, followed by the volunteer of the year award presentation. Later that night there will be an 18 plus rodeo dance starting at 7:00 p.m. followed by a live band taking the stage at 8:00 p.m. to close out the night.

Sunday, Sept. 1, will follow a similar schedule, however the Cochrane Lions Rodeo will be raising funds for MS Canada Awareness Day. Attendees are encouraged to donate to We Challenge MS. Rodeo action will proceed at 1:00 p.m. and will include the cowboy of the year presentation happening on this day.

Finally, Monday, Sept. 2, will be free entrance for past and present military and first responders. These individuals are eligible to claim up to 4 tickets for themselves plus family and friends by reaching out to [email protected]. As per usual, the rodeo starts at 1:00 p.m. and will run until 5:00 p.m. 

As expected, the rodeo itself will consist of all the classic competitions like bareback riding, saddle bronc, bull riding, jr. bull riding, tie-down roping, team roping, breakaway roping, jr. breakaway roping, ladies barrel racing, jr. barrel racing, pee-wee barrel racing, mutton busting, mini broncs, and wild pony racing.
