It was former MLAs from the Lougheed era who taught me that you can’t trust members of the Reform Party. Looking after their own wellbeing and that of their rich friends while spreading lies is what they do best.
Watching what Liberal Ralph Klein did to this province using Reform Party policies while spreading his lies was sickening to watch. Did deregulation of electricity make your power bills a lot cheaper, as he promised? Did closing hospitals, closing 1,500 hospital beds and cutting 5,000 nursing positions make our healthcare system better, like he promised?
Did slashing taxes and oil royalties to create jobs work? Even his own father Phil and daughter Angie weren’t dumb enough to believe that and tried to help us vote him out. His ignorant supporters wouldn’t let us and look at the mess we are in.
Then we had Reformer Stephen Harper spreading his lies at the federal level. He lied about the Income Trusts and it cost Canadians $35 billion we were told and while he looked after his rich friends he took Canada from a $19 billion surplus to a $151 billion debt.
If that wasn’t bad enough now we have another Liberal turned Reformer in Jason Kenney treating his supporters like morons while he plays the same mind games his hero Ralph Klein played on us with the same results another “horrific mess” as Lougheed called Klein’s.
All this while our Environment and Parks Minister Jason Nixon, after promising not to sell off any Crown land, is selling one of the only remaining native grasslands left in Alberta that is home to some of our species at risk including: Sprague pipit, common nighthawk, and plains spade toad. He doesn’t care.
Now Jason Kenney has thrown the teachers under the bus making them pay with their jobs while he looks after his rich friends and his supporters don’t care, yet every true conservative I know does.
The point is the MLAs were right, you can’t trust these Reformers. They are nothing like the Conservatives we proudly supported under Lougheed and Getty. Too bad so many of our fellow seniors don’t seem to be smart enough to understand it.
