Tough times call for tough measures and it would seem Jason Kenney is prepared to do just that.
The new budget that Kenney and his party just handed down is the most drastic budget as far as cost cutting goes in more than 25 years of provincial leadership.
The initial reaction is anything but positive. This is particularly evident in the public sector where most of the cuts have taken place.
As previously stated, this is a ballsy move on the Conservative government’s part because this is where the unions live. Kenney and his party are about to take on the organized section of Alberta’s taxpayers. Most provincial governments have nailed the individual (non-organized) sector just because it’s easier.
A fact most Albertans aren’t aware of: the first point of business in the new Kenney government was to reduce wages at home. Yes, Kenney and his fellow politicians all took a pay cut so that when the plebes (yes, that’s us) were asked to take a hit, they took it first.
That’s never happened before. The whole exercise is to get Alberta back to being fiscally in shape and ready to weather the crap Eastern Canada is about to heap on us.
Think of the way you conduct your home budget. If you’re in over your head, you make drastic cost cuts. If you don’t, you lose it all!
