This letter was addressed to John Conway, manager of Cochrane's Safeway location. With the author's permission we wanted to share it with our readers to express our gratitude to everyone working on the frontline during this crisis.
I would like to take the opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to you concerning the challenge that you, your senior staff and all of the Cochrane Safeway troops that took on the challenge regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.
Our focus as regular shoppers, and in my case having become connected with a lot of your great staff on a more personal basis, makes this letter more important.
As we are seniors we respected the rule and tried to forgo our regular shopping habits to avoid contracting the coronavirus.
Your people in turn got up and faced the deep concern every day by being on the front line. They said goodbye to family and headed in to face a daunting situation serving those that needed food on the table.
They needed leadership, new controls, expanded hours and a drastic change to their regular duties.
Not only locally, but across the country similar operations are being heralded as truly heroes in the face of a serious pandemic. I would like to add your local counterparts Save-on-Foods and Mark's No Frills who have shown the same kind of frontline support that makes us all proud to call Cochrane home.
We will get through this, your staff should and will feel proud of what they accomplish with the help of you and your assistant managers.
Cochrane is a proud community. Safeway will help the sun to shine and make us all better at the end of this. We all have to eat to survive.
I would be pleased if you could post this letter so all your great staff will know we care, and are proud of each of you.
