As noted recently in the local press a very positive development occurred for the AG Society when Rocky View county formally agreed to sell the property now occupied by the Society for a nominal fee with a long term caveat that the land be used exclusively for recreational purposes.
This very welcomed decision now opens up major opportunities for additional agricultural/recreational events including a relocation of the rodeo complex which has long outlived its present location on the downtown lower bench.
While the recent Tri-Site committee report capably chaired by Coun. Susan Flowers made several important recommendations regarding the best use of town lands, it refrained from identifying a clear future plan for the current rodeo grounds.
The permanent transfer of the county land to the Ag Society now presents the much needed window to provide for a major redevelopment that can accommodate year round rodeo events in a world class facility second only to Spruce Meadows.
Equally important it will then allow the Town to proceed with a repurpose plan of the entire lower bench property for year round recreational uses along with much needed senior housing development.
In conclusion let’s proceed with immediate engagement involving the Town, the AG Society, the Lions Club and the rodeo community to chart a path for relocation which can serve the collective interests of all residents.
