This letter was addressed to Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro.
Honourable Minister Shandro,
Time is of the essence. Stop the cuts.
Honour the lifesaving physicians and health care workers in our province. Suspend any previous understanding you may have had regarding the Health Care System and pause to take note of the grave situation in the world today.
In a year from now, you, or I may not be alive. COVID-19 does not discriminate. We are in a global pandemic.
We are at war, not with physicians or health care workers, but with a political system that pits us against one another. We need to collaborate on every level. We need to step back, take a fresh look at who and what actions are really ‘helping’ in this critical – literally ‘life-threatening’ and ‘life-changing’ situation. We need you to take a stand. Stand up against the budget cuts and changes to healthcare. Support a reversal of the suggested changes as the United Conservative Health Minister. Or, if necessary, stand down or take a stand as an Independent MLA of Calgary-Acadia against the cuts.
We are talking about the future of humanity here. Not just the future of Alberta. The actions and effects of our government are being recorded in history at this very moment. How do you want it to read when your name is searched?
An Albertan,
Dolina M.E.Watson
