The residents of Heartland in Cochrane are increasingly growing concerned that our safety is not being made a priority.
Currently there is no safe walking access out of the community. We have been promised an access to pathways with a pedestrian crossing at Horse Creek Road. This has been met with multiple delays. Many of these delays have been completely avoidable if there was more communication between Canadian Pacific Railway and the town of Cochrane.
A project that was slated for completion at the end of summer 2018 has now been delayed again.
There are two schools within walking distance to Heartland once the crossing is completed. There are many families within Heartland that want to show their children the excitement of an active lifestyle and are forced to drive anywhere outside of the community. There are people within the community who don’t drive and are forced to stay within the community. Weekend traffic is congested to an extent it prevents people from wanting to leave. These were issues everyone signed up for temporarily while the community grew. Everyone is beginning to feel as though their concerns for safety and function, are being ignored and unheard.
