Dear Editor:
The Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Backpack Program provided school supplies and backpacks for children of families on a limited income in Cochrane and area.
This program relies entirely upon community donations to provide this service and time and time again, Cochrane shows it compassion and generosity.
The program distributed 77 backpacks specific to the child’s grade and school. Cochrane residents provided nearly $1,000 in private donations, with Treasures for Your Home Society and another local business (anonymous) each providing another $1,000 in corporate donations.
Without such tremendous community support this program would not be possible. Cochrane kindness goes beyond providing pencils and paper for the children. Donating to the Backpack Program gives relief to families and reduces stigma for children starting school without proper school supplies. Furthermore, it tells the children and their families that their community genuinely cares about them and supports their education experience. That message is not soon forgotten.
Thank you, Cochrane, for your continuing dedication and support.
