A Gymnastics Canada report, last updated on January 24, 2025, lists Airdrie coaches Jamie Atkin and Hailey Macaig, as being suspended. Both are currently listed as coaches on Airdrie Edge Gymnastics's website.

The Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) said their organization remains committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all athletes, coaches, and members.

"Following a thorough third-party investigation and disciplinary process, sanctions have been issued in accordance with AGF’s Abuse, Maltreatment, and Discrimination Policy," the statement read.

Macaig is listed as being suspended between Oct. 19, 2024 to April, 30, 2025. She is suspended from coaching athletes under the age of 18 or those defined as vulnerable. Reinstatement is possible following completion of imposed conditions.

"The Panel found that she engaged in multiple incidences over the course of several years where that breached the Abuse, Maltreatment and Discrimination Policy of AGF, specifically: emotion and physical," the AGF shared. "When determining the relevant and applicable sanction for Hailey Macaig, the Panel considered her previous coaching and athletic background, the age range of the athletes involved, the fact that the incidents occurred over the course of several years, and the fact that she has no disciplinary record."

Atkin is facing an indefinite suspension, which started on the same date, Oct. 19, with supervised coaching of athletes 18+ allowed until completion of the imposed conditions. Atkin is further prohibited from volunteering at AGF events where 51 per cent or more of the participants are under the age of 18 or defined as vulnerable.

"The Panel found that he engaged in multiple incidences over the course of several years that breached the Abuse, Maltreatment and Discrimination Policy of AGF, specifically: emotional abuse and harassment, physical abuse, sexual harassment, neglect, and general harassment. When determining the relevant and applicable sanction for Jamie Atkin, the Panel considered his age and the age of the athletes involved, the length of time he had coached, the fact that there were several incidents of abuse over the course of several years, his previous disciplinary record, the fact that he poses an ongoing threat to other athletes if he was permitted to continue coaching youth or vulnerable athletes."

The AGF document, which is public on Gymnastics Canada’s Safe Sport Trello Board, has numerous suspended or expelled coaches from across the country, with the majority located in Alberta and Ontario.

Atkin is listed on the Airdrie Edge website as Club Manager, Trampoline & Tumbling Head Coach - FIG Trampoline Level 3, Trampoline Comp 4, Women’s Artistic Comp 3, Parkour Comp 1, GF ActiveStart.

Macaig's bio states they coach Trampoline Comp 2, GF Artistic, GF ActiveStart, GF Parkour.

"AGF acknowledges the seriousness of the findings and has taken appropriate action to uphold our commitment to athlete safety," the gymnastics organization added in their statement to the Airdrie City View. "During the investigation, temporary restrictions were in place to protect participants, and now that the process is complete, the imposed sanctions will remain in effect as outlined. These measures apply across AGF and all Gymnastics Canada member associations."

The suspensions are in effect for all Gymnastics Canada associations across the country.
