BOWDEN – One head of cattle is dead and four motorists and passengers injured following a spectacular early morning crash on Highway 2 Wednesday.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff told the Albertan that the first call on the crash on the southbound lane of the highway, adjacent to the Bowden Hi-Way Golf Course, came at 7:34 a.m. on Nov. 27.
“A southbound semi-truck lost control on Highway 2 and flipped on its side, blocking southbound lanes,” said Savinkoff. “A Good Samaritan from another vehicle went to assist the semi driver, and as he was assisting, a Ford F-350 pulling a cattle liner collided with the semi.”
Savinkoff said there are minor injuries to the pedestrian, the semi driver and two occupants of the Ford F-350.
“They were all taken to hospital, but with reportedly minor injuries,” he said.
Savinkoff said there were three head of cattle being transported, and one was declared deceased as a result of the crash.
As of noon the southbound lanes of Highway 2 were still closed as the crash clean-up, including the removal of the flipped semi, was still ongoing.
“The last update is that a tow truck is on scene. However, the removal of the semi and everything else is expected to take some time, maybe hours, just due to the dynamics of the removal there,” said Savinkoff, adding traffic is being diverted onto Highway 2A.
The Olds RCMP investigation into the crash continues.
