Airdrie crews battle residential blaze on Baywater Way

Bayside Blvd is closed off to traffic in both directions from Baywater Drive to Baywater Lane.

The RCMP is advising that all roads are now open at and near the scene of house fire on Tuesday.

Earlier Report:

A home erupted into flames early Tuesday afternoon on the 1800 block of Baywater Street SW in Airdrie.

Airdrie RCMP are currently on scene in the Bayside area with multiple apparatuses on site dousing the flames.

The fire was responded to by several crews from the Airdrie Fire Department, with support provided by both the Rockyview County and Crossfield Fire Departments.

Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie said all occupants of the house and nearby homes were evacuated safely, prior to the arrival of the fire department.

"Due to the home being structurally unstable, defensive firefighting efforts were executed with large volumes of water being applied by an aerial apparatus with an elevated water stream," Pirie explained.

A large plume of dark smoke could be seen rising above the neighbourhood. RCMP have asked people to avoid the area.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is investing to determine the cause and damage estimates.
