FIELD, B.C. – Highway 1 has re-opened following a fatal two-vehicle collision near Field, B.C. on Saturday (July 2).
According to Golden-Field RCMP, a 31-year-old Alberta man was killed in a head-on collision with a semi truck on Saturday afternoon, approximately 17 kilometres west of Field in Yoho National Park.
Unfortunately, the driver and sole occupant of the automobile, a 31-year-old man from Alberta, was pronounced deceased upon arrival of emergency crews," said the Golden-Field RCMP, in press release. "The driver of the semi truck was uninjured in the collision."
According to RCMP, evidence suggested the westbound Alberta man drifted into oncoming traffic and hit the semi truck head-on at approximately 2 p.m.

Expect an additional 20 minutes of travel time as the congestion starts to clear.

The highway re-opened at approximately 6 p.m.
Field is approximately 25km west of Lake Louise.
Saturday's fatal crash is the second in less than a month along the same stretch of highway.
On June 15, an SUV motorist was killed in a head-on collision with a logging truck near Field.
During the peak of tourism season, the RCMP are asking to be mindful, allow yourself extra time for travel, and drive safely.
