MONCTON, N.B. — The RCMP in eastern New Brunswick have withdrawn an emergency alert about two armed men west of Moncton, saying a man that police had identified earlier in the day was no longer a suspect and public safety was not at risk.

The Mounties provided few other details Thursday, except to say they were still searching for a black Dodge Ram pickup and a light-coloured Ford F150 pickup.

At 7:30 a.m., the police force issued a provincewide Alert Ready bulletin saying they were looking for two armed men with "dangerous intent" driving in a pickup truck somewhere west of the community of Berry Mills.

The Mounties later said the pair could be in either the Dodge or Ford pickup.

RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette said the alert was issued after a targeted, isolated incident in Berry Mills, which remained under investigation Thursday afternoon.

The second suspect in the case was not identified and it remains unclear what prompted the investigation in Berry Mills.

"Police remain in the area as part of the ongoing investigation and are asking anyone who may have information regarding the incident to contact police," the RCMP said in a statement posted on social media.
