RVC Fire Service hosts open houses for Fire Prevention Week

Over 1,000 residents of Rock View County visited during the previous RVC Fire station open houses earlier this summer.

From October 6 to October 12, fire halls across Canada and the United States will be educating the communities they serve on the themes of this year's Fire Prevention Week.

Smoke alarms are the focus of the 2024 Fire Prevention Week and the Rocky View County (RVC) Fire Service will be holding open houses at each of the seven County fire halls on October 12 to answer questions and educate residents of RVC communities on the benefits of working smoke alarms.

From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 12, County residents can make their way to one of the RVC fire stations in Elbow Valley, Springbank, Bearspaw, Madden, Balzac, Irricana, and Langdon to meet crew members, ask questions, become familiar with firefighting equipment.

The fire hall open houses are a way for County residents to not only become more familiar with the firefighters who service their communities, but to also learn, or perhaps re-learn, some of the valuable information surrounding smoke alarms.

Rocky View County's Fire Service would also like to remind families to take steps to educate children about Fire Prevention.

"Empower your kids with emergency readiness," says The Rocky View Firefighters (RVFF) Local 4794 in a statement released on its Facebook Page. "Familiarize them with scenarios to reduce panic during real emergencies.

Try these basic scenarios adapted to their age:

Scenario

Answer: Leave the house and call 9-1-1.

Scenario

Answer: Stay calm, check for injuries, and call an adult for help.

Scenario

Answer: Stay inside, away from windows, and call an adult for help.

Practice regularly for preparedness that counts. Learn more about emergency management by visiting rvcffa.org

The County’s fire service members will be on hand to meet the public and answer questions at the open houses starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 12.
