Rocky View County (RVC) is looking for volunteers to fill its vacant board and committee positions to help with local governance.

RVC is looking for one member at large from east Rocky View County to fill a three-year term on its Agricultural Service Board and Partnership Advisory Committee. Those serving on this board would advise the County on policies related to agriculture.

The municipality is also seeking to fill seven positions on its Assessment Review Board, and needs seven members at large to sit on its Bragg Creek FireSmart Committee. Both committees represent three-year terms.

The members of Assessment Review Board hear appeals related to assessment and taxation in the County, whereas Bragg Creek FireSmart committee members work with fire officials to help address and mitigate fire risks in that region of RVC.

RVC also hopes to attract three new members for its Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) committee for a three-year term. FCSS helps advise the County on social issues and wellness policies, and determines the yearly funding grants for local non-profit organizations addressing social wellness issues.

And finally, the County is also seeking two members at large and one alternate to serve three years on it Subdivision Development and Appeal Board (SDAB). The SDAB is the quasi-judicial body that hears appeals and makes rulings on development permit application challenges and appeals.

Those interested in becoming a member of one of these Rocky View County’s boards and committees can apply at rockyview.ca/boards-committees, or by emailing legislativeofficers@rockyview.ca

The deadline to submit an application is Sept. 29. All applicants, except for the Assessment Review Board, must be residents of Rocky View County.

Appointees will be formally confirmed at the Rocky View County council organizational meeting held on Oct. 17.
