VIDEO: World athletes shoot "fore" gold at Lac La Biche golf club

Archers in the medal finals take aim at an elevated target that backs onto the seventh fairway at the Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club. Golf was suspended on the front nine holes of the 18 hole course for the weekend as the world's best archers competed.
Lac La Biche County welcomed world-class athletes for the 2024 World Field Archery Championships.

"Fore"

The driving range of the Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club turned into archery range over the September 21 weekend for the medal round of the 2024 World Archery Field Championships. And even though the sports are vastly different, at least one word sent over the outdoor speaker system sounded right at home at the lakeside golf course.

"Four" was a score earned by several archers taking aim at tricky target placements on the golf course driving range. The scores were called out over the outdoor speaker system for other athletes and spectators.

The week of championship archery events began on September 16 with 250 athletes from 28 countries. The final two days of target shooting at the golf course saw just four individual competitors in each of the men's and women's categories and four teams completing. Residents were invited to watch and cheer on the athletes at the Saturday and Sunday finals at the course. Bleacher seating, large video screen, a speaker system and a beer tent were all in place.
