Suspected thief nabbed after high speed pursuit in Innisfail

INNISFAIL – An Edmonton man is in custody on multiple Criminal Code charges following a high-speed police pursuit in a residential area of town.

At about 11:05 p.m. on April 20, a local Mountie, while on patrol in the Main Street area, observed a vehicle in the Tim Hortons parking lot that was recently reported stolen, said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler.

She added the suspect operator of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee southbound on 45th Avenue, driving erratically through the residential area before getting stuck in a ditch.

Eiler said the driver then fled on foot. RCMP chased the suspect and eventually nabbed their man.

Daniel Fenrich, 27, of Edmonton, has been charged with:

• taking a motor vehicle without consent

• impaired operation of a conveyance

• refusing to comply with a demand (alcohol)

• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

• flight from a peace officer

• three counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited

• two counts of obstructing a peace officer

• mischief over $5,000

• mischief under $5,000

• breaching a probation order

• six counts of failing to comply with a release order

• driving an uninsured motor vehicle

• transporting open liquor in motor vehicle and cannabis in reach of driver

Fenrich has been remanded into custody to appear in Red Deer provincial court on May 20.
