Police find imitation handgun on man at Cold Lake hospital

COLD LAKE - A man who police thought had a concealed firearm at the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre is now facing charges, although it was later determined the item was an imitation handgun.

On Nov. 6, a Cold Lake RCMP officer who was at the facility for an unrelated matter reportedly noticed a concealed firearm on a person.

"The officer immediately began to issue verbal commands to the male and verbally placed them under arrest," according to information from RCMP. "After several moments and with help from [Alberta Health Services] security, the male was secured."

Damian Belch, 21, was charged with weapons offences and resisting arrest. He was taken before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody.

His next court day has been set for Nov. 12 in Lloydminster.
