Central Alberta residential care facility worker found not guilty of assault on patient

DIDSBURY - A man charged with assaulting an elderly male at a Didsbury residential care facility has been found not guilty following a trial.

Maximino Garcia, a nine-year employee at Bethany Didsbury, was arrested and charged on Nov. 8, 2023. He was 49 and placed on administrative leave at the time.

Police said they received information on Nov. 7, 2023 regarding the physical abuse of a senior at a residential care facility in Didsbury.

Police alleged that the 87-year-old complainant was assaulted by the accused between September 2021 and August 2022.

As a result of a complaint received by Didsbury RCMP, the accused was charged and sent to trial in the fall at Alberta Court of Justice, where he was found not guilty.
