Bail denied for man charged in Okotoks shooting

Bail was denied for Okotoks shooting suspect Kaden Clouston, and a trial will take place at Calgary Court of Justice in April.

Bail has been denied for Kaden Clouston, the person accused in a daytime shooting at a home in Okotoks in the spring of this year. 

Clouston has been in custody since he was arrested at the scene of a shooting in the Sheep River neighbourhood on May 1 that left a 53-year-old-man in serious condition with a gunshot wound. 

Clouston appeared in court on Nov. 15 and, in a decision given on Nov. 22, a judge ruled that Clouston remain in custody pending the outcome of a trial.

A bail hearing had been scheduled for August, but it was delayed after the accused asked for a new lawyer. 

Following the shooting, Clouston was charged with the following offences: 

  • Discharge a firearm with intent   
  • Aggravated assault   
  • Careless use of a firearm   
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose   
  • Pointing a firearm   
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x3)   
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without license (x2)   
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm 

A trial for the accused is scheduled from Apr. 7 to 10, 2025 at Calgary Court of Justice.
