A Barrhead couple's tragic loss of their beloved pet to a dog attack has resulted in an outpouring of support from the community - including the gift of a new puppy.

On June 19 in Barrhead County a large dog came onto a neighbour’s property and killed the residents’ pet Chihuahua.

Shae Guy, County Bylaw Officer, was notified of the situation on June 20 and did the investigation.

Officer Guy explained, “two charges have been laid under the dog control bylaw, dog biting, under section 10.1 and dog causing damage to another animal 10.4 of the bylaw.”

"The first court appearance is scheduled for August 27 and is now a court matter.”

The Chihuahua's owners are devastated.

They wish to remain anonymous in light of the impeding court case.

“The large dog broke his neck and bit me trying to rescue my dog,” the male owner explained, visibly distraught and emotional.

Both owners are consumed with grief, in shock over losing their companion who meant so much to them.

“The community’s kindness and support has been overwhelming,” the male owner exclaimed.

“It should be called “Barrheart” because of all of the generous thoughtful things people have done and said.”

These residents have only in been in the county for a year and are awe-struck.

But the community didn’t stop there in showing their kindness to this wounded couple.

A week after the attack an anonymous person delivered a Chihuahua puppy to the grieving couple.

The anguished couple want to give a special thanks to those who provided the puppy and cannot express what this generosity means to them.

A memorial has been set up on the site of the incident and the male owner spends lot of time there.

“He was like our child, he communicated to us, shared in every moment of our lives, he made our family complete,” the female owner shared.

This small bundle of love was this couple’s emotional support animal, helping them cope with crippling health conditions.

The dog with two names, Poco and Nugget, was part of every holiday celebration from sharing traditions to having his own plate at the table for the holiday meal.

Poco loved dressing in costumes to match the occasion, smiling with everyone at each event reminisced the owners.

Poco was this couple’s angel on earth.

Today the cloud of grief is heavy, and the owners are taking one day at a time working through the shock of the devastating incident.

Nightmares and flashbacks of the event haunt them.

Casey, the new puppy, is a sweet, mild mannered little guy, who is company for the couple through this very difficult time.
